Welcome to The Right To a Roof

The lack of affordable housing, increasing rent costs, and deficient support systems ultimately halt the removal of the homelessness off the streets. Regardless of how or why these people have ended up in this situation, homelessness is preventable, and these people should know that.

In the UK, homelessness is an enduring phenomenon and arguably, increasing in prevalence Watts et al (2022) The route to homelessness can be caused by a number of social, economic and subjective variables which in turn drive someone onto the streets. Removing homelessness, needs to involve a change, and thus requires charities, society and governmental policies in playing a role that ensures there are frameworks and a foundation for people who find themselves in this vulnerable position.

Recent statistics highlight that 358,370 households have contacted their local authority for support after being threatened with homelessness or losing their homes between 2023-24. A stat which has increased 10% from the previous year. Whilst 326,000 people live within temporary accommodation (17% increase in one year) most of whom are families and children. As well as the physical absence. Homeless  is an outcome of between structural and personal factors such as life events, family conflicts and drug/alcohol abuse (Bramley &Fitzpatrick 2018). Many of these individuals receive trauma, discrimination, stigma and increased risk of abuse. That’s why are The Right To A Roof. We aim to diminish that.
